Common Ground: A Community Mosaic

The Whaling Museum is collecting stories from the people of Greater New Bedford for Common Ground: A Community Mosaic and is partnering with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra to bring you Common Ground: A Musical Mosaic Edition.  During this live online event, experience a rich musical tapestry of different cultures and histories from around the world. Your musical journey will whisk you away to Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Israel, and China, tracing the many paths immigrants from around the world have taken to arrive in New Bedford. A solo violin piece based on a Chinese folk melody and written by local Chinese-American composer Dr. Jing Wang will be one highlight of the evening. Dance legend Kevin Doyle will join the musicians, adding his lively step-dancing and clogging to Irish jigs, hornpipes, waltzes, and reels. This hour-long, live performance will take place virtually through Zoom.

Musicians: Peter Zay (cello, guitar) and EmmaLee Holmes-Hicks (violin, fiddle)

Dancer: Kevin Doyle
